Qantas has announced further expansion of its WA activities, with a new direct Perth-Exmouth service to launch on March 31, and the basing of an additional 737-800 in Perth for intrastate services.

“With the Western Australian government’s review of regulated routes opening Perth-Exmouth up to a second licensed operator, QantasLink will commence B717 services, initially three-times-a-week, from 31 March,” said Qantas regional manager WA and NT Ian Grey.

“We also welcome the government’s decision to deregulate the Perth-Geraldton route and will now assess options around a possible future operation to Geraldton.”

Grey said the additional Perth based 737-800 will be used to add nearly 7000 seats per week from Perth to Broome, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Newman, Paraburdoo and Port Hedland.

“Qantas will also increase capacity between Perth and Melbourne by more than 2000 seats per week by adding four return services from 17 April, including three operated by A330-300 aircraft.”
