Hawker de Havilland Returning to the Role of Prime Contractor
In many ways it is appropriate that Hawker de Havilland’s sixtieth anniversary year sees the company’s head office at Bankstown returning to the role of prime contractor on major defence aircraft projects.
It is more than a quarter of a century since the last HdH-built aircraft, the Vampire trainer, left the production line at Bankstown. HdH Victoria, when it was Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation, was prime contractor for the Macchi MB-326H jet trainer and the Bell 206B-1 helicopter, but this was before the HdH takeover.
