On The Airbands

Don’t forget that contributory stories for ‘On the Airbands’ are welcome from pilots, air traffic controllers, airline hostesses, flight stewards, passengers, in fact anyone who has an interesting anecdote to offer. We’re certainly not discriminatory here at Australian Aviation!
I recently received a letter from the United States, written by a regular reader who happens to be an Eastern Airlines (USA) A300 Captain. This gentleman wished to pay homage to the good-natured humour and pleasant personality of an Australian flight attendant (steward) who worked for his airline during 1985 and who has since apparently returned to Australia to join Qantas Airways in the same capacity.
According to my correspondent, the young Aussie was regularly breathing a breath of fresh air into a sometimes humor-less industry and deserves to be mentioned here. Our Captain now takes up the story: I was in command of an Eastern Airlines A300 out of Boston for Miami, one balmy evening. We had the privilege of having on board a young Aussie flight attendant, who had been on our payroll some eleven months and who was continually winning many friends among passengers on our flights due to his pleasant personality and good natured sense of fun. His name, I believe, was Marc Boys. I say privileged, as the young man characterised for me the Australian good natured, yet crazy sense of humour.
