Museum Mirages
With the progressive introduction of the F/A-18 Hornet as the RAAF’s front-line fighter defence, high-time Mirage fighters are being gradually taken out of service. Some of these Mirages are going to museums and at 3. 00pm on the 31st of March Mirage A3-3 made its final landing before going on static display in the fighter museum at Williamtown RAAF Base, NSW.
As this column closed for press it was advised that Mirage A3-84 was scheduled to fly from Williamtown to Laverton AFB, Vic. on May 21st and then be towed the few miles south to Point Cook AFB for display in the RAAF Museum there. The runway at Point Cook is too short for a Mirage to land on.
