International Visitors

The star attraction of the period was the arrival in Melbourne of a Uruguayan-registered DC-8 freighter.

Aero Uruguay brought their DC-8-55F CX-BLN to Melbourne on April 19th. The DC-8 is positioned in to operate a pig charter to Singapore and Colombo on April 21st. DC-8-55F c/n 45804 was built in 1966 on order for Scandinavian Airlines. It was delivered to them in March of that year as OY-KTC. In April 1970 the DC-8 was sold to KLM as PH-DCZ. The next operator of the DC-8 was lnair Panama who registered the aircraft HP-927. In November 1984 it was sold to the Boreas Corp, Miami as N855BC. In May 1986 Nationair, Canada bought the DC-8 and registered it C-GMXP. National leased the DC-8 to Aero Uruguay in November 1986 for twelve months.
