Boeing Delay 7J7 Programme:

In a not totally unexpected decision, Boeing has delayed launch of its 7J7 propfan programme by up to 15 months.

Cause of the delay revolves around conflicting market assessments of what the 7J7 capacity range will eventually be. After two years of in-depth market analysis, Boeing is still confronted with a situation where half its potential clients want a 150 seat aircraft and half want something approaching 170/180 seats. Many US carriers are fearing future restricted access to the nation’s major hubs and are thus wary of equipping with smaller aircraft in the 727 class. Boeing naturally can’t firm its 7J7 design till it has sufficient market confidence to know that its design formula is what the airlines really want.
