Launch of Super Hornet Nears:
During the course of this issue the US Navy is expected to issue final technical specifications on a number of F-18 variants suitable for both the US and export markets.
The uprated F-18 is being built up around four different variants and will be designated Super Homet. The variants range from a basic upgrade of the avionics suite with an accompanying dorsal fuel hump to a consider. The ably altered version featuring a delta wing canards and revised tailplane assembly. The impetus for proceeding with a feasibility study on the Super Homet programme lies in the USN’s desire to gain the maximum long-term effectiveness from existing assets and to be able to participate with overseas allies in developing combat aircraft to suit the export market.
