Fairey Firefly Crashes

Mike Wansey’s Fairey Firefly AS. 6, VH-HMW (ex. WD828) has been badly damaged in an accident!

The Firefly, better known as ‘Mickey’s Mouse’ took off from Camden NSW, on Saturday December 12th, on an initial test flight following maintenance work on the aircraft. Shortly after becoming airborne engine power was lost and the machine was put down in a paddock some two kilometres from the airport. The pilot, George Markey, received back injuries but was able to vacate the machine while engineer Bill Spence, who had been working on the aircraft, received more serious back injuries and had to be removed from the rear cabin by emergency services.
