No Special Support for Aerospace

At the recent Aviation Symposium held at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra, the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce, Senator Button, announced that the Government had decided against providing special forms of assistance for the aerospace sector.

The aerospace industry in Australia has, in the past, relied very heavily on the Defence sector, as have aerospace industries in most other countries in the Western world. When it became obvious that support from Defence was about to, reduce considerably, companies and unions within the industry joined with Government representatives from relevant departments to determine what the longer term potential of the industry could be and what had to be done to encourage it to reach its full potential.
