Raaf to Look At Forming Special Day Fighter Squadron:
Revealed in this issue’s special Interview with Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Ray Funnell, is the plan to establish a special day fighter squadron in the early nineties.
The purpose of the squadron would be to take graduating fast jet pilots directly from Pearce and rather than have them in a limbo situation awaiting squadron transfer, to place them in a special purpose squadron where their day/clear weather ACM skills can be honed prior to converting to Hornets and perhaps F-111 aircraft.
