Video Podcast: Australian Aviation’s 2024 year in review

written by Robyn Tongol | December 18, 2024

Twelve months is a long time in aviation, and 2024 has been longer than most – not least because of the ignominious collapse of two domestic airlines, Rex and Bonza, which a year ago had seemed in far better shape than they actually were.

Of course, these weren’t the only major developments, with Qatar and Virgin announcing a big new tie-up, the government releasing its highly-anticipated Aviation White Paper, and supply chain issues continuing to squeeze aircraft production.

In this final regular Australian Aviation Podcast for 2024, Adam and Jake break down the biggest stories of the year and look ahead to 2025.

Plus, speculation abounds that the government might buy out the biggest share of Rex’s debt – but would it get its money’s worth?

Lad… lads… you TOTALLY neglected to mention the release of Aston’s book. This tome has revealed sooooo much that we could NEVER have known about the behind-the-scenes detail of Joyce’s manipulation of airline management processes, largely (as well documented by Aston) for his own financial ends. It also illuminated the grubby political matter of the Chairman’s Lounge. And while I’m ‘at it’… following your recent generous hosting by Virgin Australia, did you mention the potential labour stoush at Virgin around the proposal to bring a Joyce sychophant in as CEO? I think you did not. Adam and Jake… the good-time aviation podcast guys! Come on lads. Check with me next time to make sure you’re going to cover ALL matters; including the uncomfortable.
