If not attractive to behold, at least the US DoD hopes that the Northrop B-2 Advanced Technology Bomber will at least be invisible to enemy radars. First flight of the revolutionary B-2 is set for later this year with an entry to service around 1992/93.

Retention Bonus for Defence Force Pilots:
The Government has decided to introduce a retention bonus for pilots in the Australian Defence Force. The once only bonus of $70,000 in return for a six year service commitment is a response by the Government to the current unacceptably high resignation rate among ADF pilots.
a “Separations have increased from the long- term average of 47 a year to 110 in 1986/87, and the figure may reach 130 in 1987/88. The increase is due mainly to a record level of recruitment by commercial airlines” stated Mrs Ros Kelly, the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel. The high level of recruitment by commercial airlines is unlikely to cease within the next four years and Defence Force operations could be seriously affected if pilot separations are allowed to continue indefinitely at current rates.
