Valsan have achieved FAA Supplemental Type Certification for their re-engined 727-200 programme. The Valsan programme, one of several aimed at offering a quieter 727 to meet ICAO Stage 3 requirements, now lists 85 firm orders and features two P&W JT8D-200 series engines from the MD-80 with the standard centreline engine retained but modified to reduce noise. Valsan lists as benefits a 12% increase in range, a 70% reduction in noise and a 35% reduction in field length. Valsan are also developing a two man automated cockpit for the 727 and plan to have this certified by next May.
