Indonesian low-cost airline TransNusa will make Perth its first Australian destination with a new service to Denpasar.
The carrier will operate A320-200 aircraft on the route from 20 March, starting at three times per week before increasing to four times per week from 12 April and daily from 1 June. In total, the service will add more than 127,000 seats between Perth and Bali per year.

TransNusa will compete with several other airlines on the lucrative route, including Jetstar, Indonesia AirAsia, Batik Air and Citilink.
“The Bali-Perth international route is a golden route as the highest number of tourists, almost every year, in Bali are from Perth. Hence, the demand for this route is equally significant,” TransNusa Group CEO Datuk Bernard Francis said.
“As such, we will be utilising our Airbus A320 that has only a mere 174-seat configuration, which allows passengers to enjoy about 30 inches of legroom, comparable to the experience passengers would get in a full-service airline.”
Perth Airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, Kate Holsgrove, said the new TransNusa service speaks to the strength of the Perth leisure market.
“The introduction of TransNusa to Perth will provide a new option for our passengers to visit the popular holiday destination of Bali in 2025,” she said.
“With a flight time of just over 3 ½ hours, it is easy to see why we have a love affair with the holiday spot Bali and why people return on a regular basis.
“We look forward to working with the TransNusa team as they increase their capacity into Perth over the next six months and look for other opportunities within the Western Australian market.”
The news comes as Perth Airport continues to record all-time passenger traffic highs, with 16.9 million passengers travelling through its terminals in 2024, 1.6 million more than in 2023.
In total, 56 per cent of Perth’s annual increase in traffic came from additional international passengers, which grew 23 per cent year on year.
The airport’s chief executive, Jason Waters, said last week that the increased traffic is a good sign for the state’s economy.
“If Perth Airport is growing, then the Western Australian economy is growing and prospering,” he said.
“We believe there is great potential for further growth in passenger numbers as we move towards a potential 20 million passengers a year by 2030.
“International travel has enormous potential with Perth Airport and Tourism WA about to host almost 1,000 national and international aviation decision-makers for the Routes Asia conference in March.”
Regional also performed strongly, growing by almost 7 per cent in 2024, with interstate travel growing by 6 per cent.
