Australian Firm Bidding for Massive Us Army Technical Support Contract

Ashley Computer Services of Melbourne and McDonnell Douglas Helicopters have teamed to offer the revolutionary ACAMS (Ashley Computer Aided Maintenance System) for future helicopter maintenance support programmes.

ACAMS is a laser disk stored data system that provides access via a personal computer to a wide range of aircraft worldwide. Essentially the Australian system eliminates entirely the need for service manuals, thereby offering a significant saving in cost and space for any maintenance organisation but also in time as a LAME or chief engineer does not waste time referencing data in a number of different manuals and their updates. The system has been in active development since 1982 and Ashley have to date invested more than $6m in its development. fhe ACAMS system is already in use with a number of Australian GA companies and is under evaluation by the major airlines and Hawker de Havilland. The RAAF has also acquired the system for an evaluation period to support their Squirrel helicopter operations.
