On The Airbands

Back with you and your receivers once more to monitor the ever present and unique humour of the airband airwaves. From kiloHertz to gigaHertz, if anyone says something witty and amusing from a Cessna 172 or the Space Shuttle you’ll eventually hear about it in ‘On the Airbands’ !

Busy times for me of late with yet another trip to the United States, this time to the mainland, with the object of looking at the routine and not so routine operations of UCSD ‘Lifeflight’ in San Diego, a leading US helo rescue/medical retrieval service. Then it was back home to examine our own Careflight service at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital. I eventually got to open the mound of mail waiting for me on my return and was delighted to have received a letter from an old workmate, now a decorated Army aviator with the School of Army Aviation at Oakey, Queensland, Major Ross Rundle. I saw Ross fly a comedy routine at the 1988 Bankstown Air Fair in an Army Kiowa helicopter, along with an able helper on the ground. The skill that was demonstrated by Ross was breathtaking!
