Sea Fury Sold Overseas
Followers of the Australian warbird movement will no doubt be shocked to learn that Sea Fury VH-HFA has been sold overseas, in the USA. The big fighter was the second of the ex Iraqi Air Force Furies, imported in 1982, to be restored and flown in Australian skies under ANR 108a.
Put on the civil aircraft register on 25/1/84, the machine was registered to Ted Allen, an earth moving contractor of Mackay, Old. The reason for the aircraft being sold is not known, however, adverts for it appeared in the middle of 1988 with potential buyers to contact Guido Zuccoli at Darwin, NT. The Fury, which was struck off the register on 5/12/88, was painted in a RAN Korean war colour scheme complete with black and white fuselage and wing stripes, the number 253 on the fuselage and the ‘K’ of aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney on the fin. The name ‘Magnificent Obsession’ appeared on the cowling as a final touch.
