• Following the discovery of possible fatigue cracks in two RAAF Canberras at Amberley on 24 July, the 21 aircraft remaining in service were temporarily grounded. The cracks were located in the wing fuselage fittings and all the Canberras are expected to have been inspected within two weeks.

• The first fight of a Boeing KC-135A tanker fitted with winglets took place on 24 July. The programme developed jointly by NASA and the USAF will investigate the fuel savings potential of the drag reducing winglets.
