The Mustang. An aircraft that will still attract attention at the National Air and Space Museum for many years to come.
Laverton Fights For National Air & Space Museum
Laverton Aims to Become Site for Australia’s National Air & Space Museum
As most readers will be aware there have been proposals in the past for a National Aviation Museum but all have come to nothing with the principal problem usually being finance.
However, a new proposal, just completed, has tackled the issues involving a National Air and Space Museum (NASMA) with an air of professionalism unseen in previous proposals. This latest proposal concludes that not only can the project be achieved but that it can be done at relatively little cost to the public purse and that the most suitable site is Laverton, Victoria.
Australia as a nation has long participated in the development of manned flight and more recently space flight. Indeed, even before the Wright Brothers got off the ground Lawrence Hargraves had made significant contributions to aviation research. As the years rolled on Australians continued to contribute to the growth of aviation by way of pioneering long distance flights, commercial air services and a military aviation component second to none. In more recent years Australia has turned out a number of innovative aircraft designs and produced highly technical inventions that have been taken up by the rest of the world.
