It’s an I’ll Wind

At the time of writing, the industrial dispute between Australia’s airline pilots and the major domestic carriers was in its fifth week.

To date there seem to be no winners, except perhaps the intercity coach operators, who have no doubt enjoyed record demand. According to many observers, there will be no clear winners when the dispute comes, as it finally must, to an end. As always, that view owes a great deal to the way the central issues have been defined. Th public comments by the main protagonists, and the bulk of media commentary, have concentrated on the industrial relations implications of the dispute. For the Government, the ACTU, the Pilots Federation and the airline employers these implications are clearly of great significance.
