Rotax now have available their first four stroke GA/LPA engine. The 80hp Rotax 912 weighs in at only 62kg and features an internally lubricated gear drive system for the propeller and is cooled by both air and liquid. Fuel consumption is a claimed 17 I/hr at 75% cruise power and the engine is currently being test flown in a Canadian built Murphy Aviation Renegade ultralight.

Skywest Continues Coastwatch:
Skywest Aviation, a member of the Ansett group of companies, has won an $88m five year contract for surveillance of Australia’s north coast after its rival, Amman Aviation, withdrew its bid.
It will be remembered that Skywest held the original contract, lost it to Amman and then took it over again in 1987 when Amman’s contract was cancelled under controversial circumstances. In addition to Skywest, Queensland based City and Country Helicopters has been awarded a $2. Sm contract for surveillance of the Torres Strait area.
