Twin Long Ranger at Last

A Californian mod shop is doing what many in the industry think should have been done by Bell many years ago, the fitting of two small turbine engines into the JetRanger and LongRanger series of light helicopters.

The work is being carried out by Costa Mesa-based Tridair on a Bell 206L Longranger with its traditional Allison 250-C30P being replaced with t wo Allison 250-C20Rs rated at 435shp for takeoff and 370shp for max continuous power. The company is having its engineering justification done by Blackaller Engineering of Los Angeles. Soloy Conversions, well known for fitting Allisons to light GA aircraft, is developing the twin engine package and gearbox. The new helicopter, to be called the Gemini ST and designated the Model 206L-3ST, will be flying within the next 12 months and the company hopes to have it certified by the end of next year.
