Growth in Civil Sales Predicted
An apparent growth in demand for civil helicopters has led Allison Gas Turbine to raise its forecast for civil deliveries over the next ten years. According to the engine manufacturer civil operators will take delivery of 5,100 new machines over the next decade, an increase of 13% over its 1989 prediction.
Allison predicts that demand for light twins will almost double by 1999 when about 160 a year will be required. Sales of intermediate helicopters will grow by a strong 40% with about 140 a year being ordered by the end of the decade. There should also be a slight growth in demand for medium/heavy helicopters, but a drop in demand from the present 250 a year to 220 for light single engined helicopters.
