747-400 in Balance

Air New Zealand’s chance of introducing its new Boeing 747-400 aircraft hung in the balance in mid April as obstinate pilots held out over an old and contentious claim.

In an effort to break the resolve of the New Zealand Airline Pilots’ Association, the company was offering individual contracts to employee pilots to fly the new aircraft and it is understood there were takers. Another solution, the airline indicated, would be to recruit pilots for the 747-400s from outside the company.
