Icelandair has decided to upgrade its domestic F27fleet with Fokker 50s. The new aircraft will be flown by its subsidiary Flugleidir, and as well as flying on domestic routes will be operated on flights from Iceland to Greenland, the Faeroe Islands, and even Scotland.

Growing Old Gracefully:
The Fokker F28 twinjet airliner is wearing well in its middle age, according to an Airworthiness Assurance Task Force report, a body which was set up to review modification, corrosion and structural maintenance of older airliners in the wake of the Aloha Airlines Boeing 737 front upper fuselage failure.
The evaluation revealed the F28 has very low susceptibility to aging and only a limited number of modifications will be made mandatory and most of these have already been recommended by Fokker and implemented by F28 operators.
