1990 Warbirds Register

There may be tough times ahead for the Australian economy but the continued growth of the Australian warbird movement does not reflect this. Since our last warbirds register was produced in 1987 the number of aircraft listed has doubled and if one is to believe even a portion of the stories about the number of restorations and imports about to occur then the warbird movement is very healthy indeed.

When ANR. 108A was first introduced, those interested in what has generally become known as a warbird initially had ideas that the types most likely to fly would be ex RAAF Mustangs, Wirraways and Hudsons. While that may have been the case then, the movement has expanded way beyond what the owners, pilots, enthusiasts and even the CAA could ever imagine.

The last few years has even seen the import of types that were front line air force machines when the restrictions were lifted and some aircraft that are not from the Western bloc have come to Australia. How the times have changed.
