Federal Government a Gain Making Aviation Its Milch Cow!

As reported in our October issue, the Federal Government is to phase out its funding of CAA aviation safety services.

This mindboggling about-face makes a mockery of ever trusting a politician’s word and is yet another reason why politicians in general are held in such low esteem by a community fed up with lies, ill conceived and thought out ‘specialty’ taxes and constant reversals on election commitments. This latest effort again highlights aviation as the government’s very own milch cow as it will ultimately add around $50m per annum to CAA costs that will have to be reaped from industry. And if that amount appears a trifle esoteric then in blunter terms it is the equivalent of an additional $7,000 surcharge per aircraft in Australia per year.
