Gulf War a Showcase of 21st Century Weaponry:

The air campaign in support of Desert Storm has correctly been referred to as a showcase of the new generation of precision guided munitions, electronic surveillance (C3) and wide spectrum electronic warfare.

Most notable first use weapons have been the impressive performance put up by the Tomahawk cruise missile, some of which have been fired by submarines in the Red Sea. The Patriot SAM system has also proven itself extremely effective without even hitting one aircraft, its primary mission when it was conceived so many years ago. Also called into service whilst still only in the early stages of their development programs are Britain’s Alarm anti radar missile, SLAM, the land attack version of Harpoon and the complex though remarkably impressive JStars system, JStars comprises the JTIDS long range ground movement surveillance and tracking system aboard a converted Boeing 707 (designated an E-8) and is conceptually a land warfare version of the AWACS. Other first use systems are the very effective F-117A stealth fighter, the Apache anti armour helo, F-18 Hornet, F-15C, Tor- nado, AV-8B, E-3 AWACS, A-10, TR-1, Jaguar and the infamous Scud and its home grown derivatives.
