Ansett NZ “Here to Stay”

After a meeting with New Zealand’s Prime Minister Bolger, Ansett Australia’s joint chairman, Sir PeterAbeles, said of Ansett NZ, still losing large amounts of money, “We are here to stay”.

Sir Peter said he had assured Mr Bolger there was “no change of heart” even though Ansett NZ losses were still exceeding forecasts. He also said plans for the airline to go international were on hold. Sir Peter said his first meeting with Bolger, covering also future services of the Union Shipping Co which is part of Sir Peter’s giant TNT transport group, was a courtesy call. However, he also raised the matter of Ansett NZ’s dispute with the Airways Corporation over charging.
