April 1-North Africa. British forces withdraw from Mersa Brega. April 2 – North Africa. The German advance gathers momentum, splitting into three columns towards Msus, Mechili and Benghazi. April3-Greece. By now two thirds of the 6th Australian Division, the New Zealand Division and the 1st Armoured Division have arrived. They are sent north to the Olympus Line.

Malta. Operation “Winch”. 12 Hurricanes, the first Mark lls to reach the island, fly off carrier HMS Ark Royal to reinforce the defences. One crash lands.
