Dallas/Ft Worth Set to Hit Top Spot:

T he US Federal Aviation Administration has predicted that Chicago O’Hare Airport is set to lose its title as the world’s busiest airport to Dallas/Fort Worth.

The FAA predicts that Dallas/Fort Worth will overtake O’Hare by 1995, when it will handle an estimated 923,000 movements in the year, hitting the one million movements mark by 2000 and 1. 15 million in 2005. (In comparison, Sydney Airport handled 237,584 movements in 1990, Tullamarine 125,581 and Brisbane 141,963). Chicago O’Hare, however, should retain its position as top passenger airport, with 46m passengers predicted to pass through O’Hare in 2005, compared to 41m at Dallas/Fort Worth, whose greater number of actual aircraft movements will be the result of the airport being a larger freight hub base and catering to larger numbers of smaller regional airliners feeding into the American Airlines network, which is headquartered at DFW.
