The Rolls-Royce RB211-524GIH engine family has reached a half million flight hours after just 20 months in service. The engine made its commercial debut on the Boeing 7 47-400 in June 1989, and since that time has powered over 35 -400s for airlines such as British Airways, Qantas, Cathay Pacific and Air New Zealand. The -524H has also now completed a problem free first year of commercial operations on BA's fleet of 767-300s, having logged about 8,500 flights.

Raaf Airshow Shaping Up:
The combined RAAF 70th Anniversary Airshow and Aviation Australia ’91 Trade Fair, to be held at Richmond air base on 11-13 October this year, is shaping up to be a real winner. Organised by the Aerospace Foundation of Australia Ltd, formed in the wake of the successful 1988 Australian Bicentennial Airshow to periodically organise further airshows around the nation, the event is promising to be the best since ’88. On display will a wide range on civil, commercial and military aircraft, from antiques to modern combat aircraft. The organisers are even reportedly seeking the attendance of several modern frontline Soviet types such as the very impressive MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker, until now not seen in the southern hemisphere. Besides static and flying displays, a large area will be set aside as a temporary aircraft sales yard for airshow patrons to buy and sell aircraft. And there will belots more, such as Aeronautica sales tents and industry exhibitions.
As with the Bicentennial Airshow, pre-paid tickets are available to give patrons access to some of the comforts to be had at the show. The Gold Pass ($85 per day) will give patrons special parking, a reserved grandstand seat, access to the exclusive Gold Pass Starship Restaurant with its dining room, bar, lounge, cafe, garden seating and private toilet facilites. A Silver Pass ($55 per day) will provide car parking and reserved grandstand seating.
