The first BAe Jetstream 41 29 seat regional airliner was officially rolled out at Prestwick on 27 March. The first flight will take place about June this year, with deliveries commencing by fate 1992. Five aircraft will be used in the year long flight testing program, three in the air and one each for static and fatigue testing. A Jetstream 41 analysis will be published in our next issue. American Airlines Cargo has announced an 18. 6% increase in cargo revenue for 1990. Revenues of $US428m ($A556m) were recorded, up from $US361m in 1989. Total revenue tonne km (RTKs) increased 18. 4% to 1. 77bn km, freight RTKs being up 20% to 1. 23bn and mail RTKs being up 13. 7% to 457m. • Hong Kong Aeronautical Engineering Company (HAECO) recorded a 1990 operating profit of $HK329m ($A54m) on a turnover of $HK1. 6bn ($A267m), up 10. 6% from a $HK317m on turnover of $HK1. 45bn in 1989. Emigration of trained personnel from Hong Kong has limited the volume of air frame maintenance work which HAECO has been able to perform. • Beech Aircraft Corp have reported record 1990 sales of $US1. 1bn, the first time that sales by the company have passed the billion mark. Pre-tax profits were up 82% on 1989 to $US80m. Some 443 aircraft were delivered, including 121 king Airs (35 of the new 350 model), 52 1900 and 1300 commuters, 11 Starship 1 turboprop business aircraft, 8 Beechjet 400As, 33 Barons and over 200 Bonanzas. • British Aerospace has announced a 1990 pre-tax profit of £376m ($920m), up 13% on 1989. Sales were a record £10. 54bn ($A26bn) and the order backlog stood at £11. 8bn ($A29bn) at year’s end. • Rolls-Royce have announced a record 1990 turnover of £3. 67bn ($A9bn) though a pre-tax profit of £176m ($A430m) down from £233m in 1989. Order backlog at year’s end stood at £5. 7bn ($A14bn).
