Tiger Makes First Flight

The Franco-German Tiger anti tank attack helicopter recently made its first flight, powered by the trinational MTR390 engine which made its first flight in February.

The MTR390, jointly developed by MTU (Germany), Turbomeca and Rolls-Royce to power the Tiger, was successfully tested in mid February onboard an Aerospatiale Panther flying testbed chopper, clearing the way for the first flight of the Tiger during April. Prior to first flight, the new engine underwent some 600 hours of bench and ground testing.
