The official rollout of the Airbus A340 is fast approaching, with Airbus Industrie currently working hard to complete the first prototype at its Toulouse facility for first flight this October. Tay Powered 727 to Fly:
The first Rolls-Royce Tay 650 powered Boeing 727-100 Is expected to fly in April 1992 to commence US Federal Aviation Administration certification flight trials.
Developed by Texas based subsidiary of Italy’s Alenia, Dee Howard, the Tay retrofit program is being developed amidst growing market interest. The company already holds a contract with United Parcel Service to retrofit 40 aircraft by November 1994 with options for 40 more. The retrofit program for the UPS aircraft includes fitting the Tays for which Dee Howard have developed a new S-duct for the centre engine to provide the greater airflow required by the Tay’s higher bypass ratio, and the installation of upgraded cockpit avionics.
