The Aerospace Foundation is offering the ultimate Australian airshows for both enthusiasts and industry. Military participation will be a key to the shows' success, and flying exhibitions will be used to both attract crowds and to display products. Industry will receive a much needed boost by having products readily exhibited and actively demonstrated during the events, to both industry and enthusiasts alike. (Jim Thorn)

Aerospace Foundation Airshows To Help Get Industry off the Ground

The Aerospace Foundation of Australia is gearing up to host the first of its planned airshows, promising not only substantial spectator entertainment, but also tremendous marketing opportunities for the aerospace industry.

The Aerospace Foundation of Australia was established in the wake of the highly successful 1988 Australian Bicentennial Air Show (ABAS), acclaimed as the world’s best run airshow that year. The non profit Foundation was tasked with promoting aviation and aerospace, and a logical and very effective way to do this was to inaugurate a regular “Air Shows Down Under” series, the first of which will be held this year at Richmond Air Base, NSW on 11- 13 October in conjunction with the Royal Australian Air Force.

Primarily celebrating 70 years of RAAF operations, Richmond ’91 will incorporate the RAAF 70th Anniversary Air Show and Aviation Australia ’91 Trade Fair, and as such cements the theme of active industry involvement and promotion. Richmond is an excellent choice of location for the first Air Show Down Under, having hosted the ABAS and several RAAF Open Days. Airshow organisers are drawing on past experience to create yet another excellent and smooth running show, developing an efficient infrastructure and transport system similar to that used operationally during the 1988 ABAS.
