Keeping the line going is what it is all about and with continuing advancements in systems and engine technology it is possible to continually update airliners to not only increase their operational effectiveness but to also benefit the airline by maintaining the commonality of fleet. Pictured is the BAe 146 RJ70 demonstrator. T he RJ70 is essentially a lightweight, revamped version of the 146-100 optimised for the short haul commuter environment. Launch customer is US operator Comair, which has 10 on order and 10 under option. Total 146 orders and options now comfortably exceed 300 units.

Jetstream 41 Rollout Heralds Improving Fortunes for British Aerospace
The rollout of the first British Aerospace Jetstream 41 27/29 seat commuter turboprop at Prestwick, Scotland on 27 March marked the beginning of a new era within the company’s Commercial Aircraft organisation.
Following more than a decade of heavy investment in all its projects the 146, ATP, Jetstream 31, Airbus and 125-the Commercial Aircraft Division is now profitable, but fur ther investment is required and substantial cuts and reorganisation have been announced to sustain operations in the future.
BAe Commercial Aircraft is currently divided into three Divisions -Airlines (146, ATP, Jetstream); Airbus (wing design and manufacture, all models); and Corporate, responsible for marketing and project management of the 125 series of jets and corporate versions of the 146 and Jetstream.
