Dornier has recorded its biggest yet order for its Do328 regional airliner. US regional carrier Horizon Air has signed for 35 firm orders and 25 options worth a total $US260m. This brings total orders and options for the 328 to 138. Meanwhile, Dornier's partner in the project, Aermacchi, has delivered the first 328 fuselage to Hamburg. The aircraft is expected to make its first flight this September with certification in late 1992.

Grumman Wins Tomcat Production Respite:
The remanufacturing of 12 F-14A Tomcats to F-14D(R) standard is to proceed, following last minute intervention from the US President in the matter, the contract for the 12 aircraft having previously been terminated by the US Secretary of Defense. The contract for the 12 aircraft was originally terminated despite having had $US998m set aside for it by Congress as Fiscal Year 1991 expenditure. However President Bush has overturned the termination decision following the House Appropriations Committee vote to accept the entire Dire Needs Desert Storm Supplemental Spending Bill, which is aimed at providing the US armed forces with additional funding to cover unexpected losses (both material and financial) caused by the Gulf War. The remanufacturing of the 12 F-14As was considered necessary by the US Navy and therefore has been approved. The USN has already procured 37 new- build F-14D Tomcats and the service hopes to eventually acquire 104 remanufactured F-14As, fully updated to F-14D(R) standard The first is scheduled for delivery in September this year, though the 1991 contract for the 12 aircraft was needed to keep the Tomcat production line open. Thanks largely to the Gulf War, this has now been done
