Spares Ground Soviet Bombers:
A lack of spare parts is reportedly having a serious effect on the serviceability rate of some Soviet military aircraft, including its strategic bomber force.
The supersonic Tupolev Tu-22 Backfire swing wing medium range twin has a serviceability rate of only 30 to 40%, according to the commander of one of the bomber wings, while the long range Tu-160 Blackjack is apparently no better. The life expectancy of both airframes and engines is said to be low due to poor manufacturing quality.
