ASTA Awarded Helicopter Maintenance Contract
ASTA Military Aircraft Services has won a twelve month contract to maintain the Army’s Black Hawk helicopters at 5 Aviation Regiment’s workshops in Townsville. The contract, which has already commenced, includes a further 12 months option and will involve 20 personnel.
Mdh Studies Military MDX Potential
Feasibility studies to identify potential military uses of the MDX helicopter have been initiated by McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co. The MDX is seen by the company as a contender for the US Army’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) being considered in the latter’s Utility Aircraft Requirements Study (UTARS). The MDX, which is scheduled for its maiden flight in September 1992, is an eight place twin engined helicopter which features the company’s NOTAR system for anti torque and directional control. The company believes that military MDX variants would be excellent for the light utility role and could be adapted to undertake light attack missions. In its military configuration, the aircraft would have a crew of two, and could carry six troops and their equipment at speeds compatible with Apache and Blackhawk helicopters. A medevac capability is also envisaged with space for two litters plus medical technicians and their equipment.
