Flight Impressions -An-2 Colt
Antonov An-2 Colt
The opportunity to fly the Antonov An-2 Colt (actually its NATO codename) came as a result of the recent visit to Australia by the Russian aviation goodwill expedition.
As I was to lead the group around Australia, it was essential that I have some idea of the handling characteristics of the type. Anyway, that was my story, and with great enthusiasm, I stuck to it.
The An-2 was designed in 1 947 to operate from short rough surface airfields, carrying up to 14 passengers, or 1,300kgs of freight and with a crop spraying capability to boot . The aircraft I flew at Darwin was built in 1989 and the type is still in production.
