Dotc Statistics Mirrors the State of the Industry

The state of the aviation industry and the economy as a whole has been revealed by statistics recently released by the Department of Transport and Communications.

The ‘Air Transport Statistics Survey of Hours Flown’ reveals flying hours, aircraft types on the register and airport movements which combine to form a collage of the state of the industry.

Overall, the figures graphically illustrate the major events that have affected the industry over the last decade, namely two recessions, the 1983 drought, the dramatic tourism growth of the mid to late 1980s, the 1989 domestic pilots’ dispute, and the early effects of airline deregulation.
