AMAFTU plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, integration, and performance of Navy aircraft conducting trials to assess how aircraft operate with various naval platforms under diverse operational conditions.

Nova’s next-generation flight test instrumentation system will allow AMAFTU to run simultaneous combinations of airborne, ground-based and shipborne instrumentation subsystems. This will enable flexible, high-fidelity testing across a broad spectrum of platforms, including unmanned aerial systems and current Navy and Army rotary-wing aircraft.

“AMAFTU’s work is vital for maintaining the operational readiness and safety of Navy aviation assets and plays a significant role in bolstering Australia’s defence capabilities,” Dean Rosenfield, chief executive of Nova Systems, said.

“The integration of our advanced FTI system will give AMAFTU access to high-quality data and analysis from both aircraft and naval vessels, helping define safe operating parameters for maritime flight operations.

“Our solution is the product of a truly global collaboration – combining local expertise with our UK-based specialists, who bring experience delivering next-generation mission systems for search and rescue helicopters.”

Nova Systems will be responsible for the design, testing, manufacture, integration, training and ongoing support of the FTI system. The development is underpinned by Nova’s digital engineering capabilities, offering a modernised approach to systems engineering and test and evaluation, and aligning closely with Defence’s broader digital engineering strategy.
