Air Defence Versus Close Air Support – The Haaf Dilemma

During the official press briefing for Exercise Kangaroo 92, the question was put to the Chief of the Defence Force, General Gration.

“During previous exercises of this nature, there has always been a problem with providing close air support, with limited air assets and a single fighter type when an air defence situation arises; will this occur in K92?”

The answer was “yes and it will be up to the commander concerned to resolve it”.
