Air Safety-Two Kinds of Pilots
Two Kinds of Pilots?
They say there are two kinds of pilots – those who have landed wheels up – and those who are going to!
At least that’s what one experienced chap told me years ago. I took it with a grain of salt at the time – it wasn’t long after he’d landed an executive twin engined Cessna wheels up with the company chairman on board and been sacked for his trouble! So who could blame him if he felt a bit defensive about it all?
These days I’m not so sure there isn’t a grain of truth in what he said. You see, it happened to me too, despite my best efforts to save the day. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to go back to my friend and tell him he was right. Poor fellow, he was killed not long after our conversation – not in some dramatic:flying accident as you might have thought, but after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Perth. Life can be strange at times.
