Melbourne Regional Commence Operations
Australia’s newest regional airline, Melbourne Regional Airlines commenced operations on 15/05. From their Essendon base Melbourne Regional operate a network of services to Echuca, Flinders Island (Lady Barron), Hamilton, King Island and Swan Hill. Equipment used is PA31-350 VH-PRJ which carries Melbourne Regional Airlines’ very attractive maroon and gold colour scheme.
Sunstate Airlines first DHC-8-100VH-TND arrived in Sydney on 08/05 on termination of its Trans-Pacific ferry flight, which originated in Reno, Nevada. From Reno VH-TND was flown direct to Honolulu then to Majuro, Honiara and Sydney. After a preservice layup with Eastern Australia in Sydney VH-TND was flown north to Brisbane on 10/05 where it made an appearance at the Archerfield Air Display. From 01/06, Sunstate and Eastern Australia changed their flight designator from the dual OF/TN and UN/TN respectively to TN, thusfurther cementing their relationship with Australian Airlines. On 04/05 Southern Australia also changed their flight designator from a dual OF/TN to TN, while on the same day O’Connor Air Services changed from OL to UQ.
