China Southern Airlines will double its daily services between Guangzhou and Brisbane during the 2025 end-of-year peak.
The carrier, one of China’s “Big Four”, will ramp up from seven to 10 weekly Brisbane flights on 17 November, then 14 from 15 December to 22 February, before scaling back to 11 until 2 March. The extra services will be operated by the airline’s A350 aircraft.

“China Southern Airlines is pleased to expand our flight services in Brisbane, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening connectivity between Queensland and our global network via our Guangzhou hub,” said Jason Sun, regional general manager at China Southern Airlines.
“As one of the world’s largest airlines, we understand the importance of seamless travel for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
“The increased frequencies will offer passengers more flexibility, smoother connections through Guangzhou, and enhanced access to China and beyond.
“We look forward to welcoming more travellers from Queensland and providing them with our renowned hospitality and industry-leading service.”
In total, the increase will deliver 85 additional services and 53,000 seats between Brisbane and Guangzhou over the holiday period. According to Gert-Jan de Graaff, chief executive of Brisbane Airport, this is equivalent to “an extra Suncorp Stadium’s worth of capacity between China and Brisbane”.
“It’s not just a tweak to services; it’s a doubling of seasonal capacity and a bold endorsement of Brisbane and Queensland’s appeal. After 15 years of partnership, this next chapter delivers more visitors, and more trade, as well as throwing down the gauntlet to its competitors,” he said.
“We know visitors arriving are dispersing across Queensland, supporting jobs in our tourism regions, while departing planes are carrying Moreton Bay bugs, avocados, and high-value medical exports that boost our economy.”
“Passengers will benefit from convenient one-stop connections through Guangzhou to key destinations including Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, Xi’an, and Vietnam, while Brisbane’s exporters will enjoy improved cargo capacity and scheduling to China – Queensland’s largest two-way trade partner.”
China Southern returned to Brisbane with four weekly flights in late 2023, the second of the “Big Four” to do so after China Eastern. The carrier earlier this year increased its Brisbane–Guangzhou flights from four to seven per week.
