WWII’s highest-scoring Aussie fighter ace

Clive Caldwell is, without doubt, Australia’s most successful fighter pilot of WWII.

Born in Sydney in 1911, he came to the RAAF in 1940 at an age too old to sign up, but snuck in after faking his birth certificate to meet the selection criteria. After training in both Australia and Canada, he was posted to the Middle East in 1941, where his wartime reputation would begin to take shape.
