Boeing and Airbus partners Aerospatiale, British Aerospace, CAE and Deutsche Aerospace have announced a one-year feasibility study of a Very Large Commercial Transport (VLCT). The study will look at various configurations between 550 and 800 seats, with ranges between 7000 and 1 (13,000 to 19,000km). Interestingly, while Boeing is dealing with the four of Airbus, it is claiming not to be dealing with the European consortium directly. New Props for Mohawks :
Aircraft shedding propellers is fortunately a rare occurrence these days, but one of regional operator Southern Pacific Airlines’ Nord 262/Mohawk 298 aircraft suffered the problem in February.
The aircraft had just left Sydney for Tamworth when the propeller parted company with the rest of the aircraft, forcing a safe return to Sydney airport with no injuries to the 22 people on board. The airline’s other Mohawks were checked after the incident, and although all were found to be clear, new propellers will be fitted as a precautionary measure.
