Qantas has launched a new codeshare deal with oneworld alliance partner Malaysia Airlines as the Malaysian flag carrier looks to expand its operations in Australia.
Passengers can now book codeshare tickets through Qantas on Malaysia Airlines flights from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, with domestic Malaysia services to Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching also included.

Qantas will also codeshare on Malaysia Airlines services from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, bringing back connectivity for its customers after the shuttering of Jetstar Asia earlier this year. It comes ahead of the beginning of an “open skies” agreement with Malaysia in 2026.
“As one of our oneworld partners in Asia, we’re pleased to deepen our relationship with Malaysia Airlines, making it easier for Qantas customers to travel to Malaysia while enjoying frequent flyer rewards and premium service,” said Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace.
“Whether it’s a business meeting in Kuala Lumpur, hiking in Borneo, or a beach escape to Langkawi, Malaysia offers something for everyone, and this partnership makes getting there more seamless than ever.
“It also reflects our commitment to offering more choice and convenience through an expanding network of partner airlines.”
On its side, Malaysia Airlines will codeshare on Qantas domestic flights to destinations including Canberra, Darwin, Hobart, and Launceston. Malaysia is currently Australia’s 11th largest inbound tourism market, with 203,000 visitors spending over $900 million last year.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, group managing director of Malaysia Aviation Group, said the codeshare agreement “marks an important step forward as we strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ presence in Australia, a key market in our long-term strategy”.
“Australia has long been a core part of our network, and our recent investments – including the deployment of the A330neo, increase in flight frequencies, and the resumption of services to Brisbane – reflect our commitment to meeting growing demand while enhancing our premium offering in this market.
“This partnership supports our broader strategy for sustainable growth, working alongside our partners to deliver a seamless travel experience that puts our passengers at the centre of everything we do.”
The news comes as Malaysia ramps up capacity into the Australian market, including bolstering flights into Adelaide from later this year and adding a third daily Kuala Lumpur service for each of Sydney and Melbourne starting in August.
